Destination Wedding July 22, 2016

Seattle can be glorious in the summer.  There is really nothing better than a sunny 85 degree summer day with the mountains in full view and the lush green trees everywhere.

Our former nanny who is now like a family member returned this summer to help look after the kids and act as their entertainer, cook, mediator, chauffer, and playmate.  We’re thrilled to have her back even if it’s just for the summer.  Anyway, her youngest sister A is about to get married this weekend and her mom asked if I’d be able to make cookies for the occasion.

The wedding is taking place near east of the mountains about 2 hrs from Seattle making this somewhat of a destination wedding. For those guests who are staying in the lodges at the wedding venue they will receive a thoughtful amenity bag in their rooms.  I haven’t actually seen the bags myself but I heard they might include things like local snacks, beer, wine, and other goodies.  They’ll also include my cookies!

I used a simple triangle cookie cutter to make these snow capped mountain cookies to coordinate with the wedding.

Can’t wait to hear all about the wedding! Congratulations Ann and Josh!

Laser Tag for Eight July 14, 2016

This year we agreed on two separate birthday parties for my twins.  Something girly for my daughter and something shooting related for my son.  Typical of boys his age, my son is into Nerf guns right now.  We don’t really have any Nerf type facilities nearby so I brought in a vendor to host a laser tag party. The boys met at our house before I walked them to a “top secret” destination (behind our house) to meet the laser tag guy, hear the instructions, and pick up their laser tag guns.  What a fun party!  The boys and girls (because the sisters crashed the party) had such a great time running around and hiding behind rocks, trees and bunkers.

After an hour plus of laser tag we walked back to the house for Five Guys Burgers (my son’s request) and some cake.

This was a great party activity for this age group! Highly recommend.

K, happy birthday buddy! I love your shared interest in baking and creating the perfect party celebration. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for you.  Love, Mom

A Shopkins Tea Party

Apparently there is such a thing as planning too early.  Last fall my daughter was obsessed with Shopkins.  I’d catch her organizing her Shopkins by food category produce, frozen, sweets, household items etc.  And then I’d find her huddled in a corner near a plug in with her tablet watching videos of people opening their Shopkins packages or acting out Shopkins scenes.  Obsessed! So I thought it was the perfect 8th birthday party theme.

Fast forward to May and she started suggested other themes that were nothing even related to Shopkins.  I had to explain to her that we’d already booked the party room, made decorations, ordered, invitations, and been collecting favor items since December.  It was too late to change.  Luckily she rolled with it and we celebrated her 8th birthday with a  Shopkins Tea Party.

The tea party was fun but maybe a little too subdued from what we’re used to.  This was the first time we’ve had a girls only birthday party.  Next year maybe we kick up the energy a bit and get a little rowdy!

T, I’m so blessed to be your mom.  Your sense of humor, determination, and stubbornness are all uniquely you.  Happy 8th Birthday!  XOXO, Mom
