Last week family friend Heide reached out and asked if I could make some cookies for a bridal shower she’s hosting for her cousin.  This was no ordinary request for a few reasons 1) she needs them for Saturday! (two days from now) and 2) she needs 50! (3 dozen is normally my max because let’s face it I’m really just a Program Manager and mom who dabbles in cookies in her free time.  My hand is not strong enough to pipe more than 36 cookies in one sitting.

The wedding invitation was the inspiration for these cookies.  The wedding will take place in Oklahoma in May and the invitation design has these sweet little canning jars with lights strung across them.  I immediately knew I wanted to use my canning jar cookie cutter for these.  To add a little something simple I tied jute twine around the actual cookie like you would a canning jar.  For the hang tag I went a little fancy with a scalloped circle, a monogrammed stamp and then added some pale cream ribbon, white lace, and a row of bling. I’m so happy with how these turned out.  Simple rustic chic is what I think of when I look at these cookies.

Congratulations to the bride!

I’ve been making cookies for E from my office for a couple of years now.  Last spring I made cookies for a last minute baby shower in the hospital when she wanted to do something nice for her sister in law who was going on bedrest unexpectedly.  This week she wanted cookies to mark the first birthday of her sweet niece.

Ds and 1s in pink, yellow and purple were the theme of these cookies.

Next weekend marks the end of another sports season – basketball.  Now that the kids are getting older time has just sped up.  It seems like we just started the season.  Anyway, I wanted to use this opportunity to celebrate my own kids and their accomplishments with cookies for the last game.  I was hesitant to order more cookie cutters since I have too many already but I didn’t have the exact cutters I was looking for so I ordered and I’m so glad I did!  These cutters from CheapCookieCutters.com are exactly what I was looking for!

Way to go Pink Rockets and Super Sharks on a stellar season!

Celebrating Dr. Seuss March 3, 2016

This week has been a fun week as schools around the country (and probably around the world) are celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday with reading related activities.  For my twin first graders they wore Thing 1 and Thing 2 shirts on Monday, dressed as a character from their favorite book and joined in for “Read my shirt day” today.

Last week a friend of mine asked for cookies to go with her special reading day at her daughter’s school.  Today she will read Oh, the Places You’ll Go while wearing a graduation cap.  She asked for graduation cap cookies in bright colors similar to the fun colors in the book.

I set to work making these bright cookies and added these yellow and pink balloon hangtags.  Whenever I think of this book I think of the balloon floating into the air so I wanted to incorporate that into the cookie packaging.

I hope the kids enjoy their special guest reader and cookies today!
