It’s no secret that I enjoy entertaining. Just the thought of filling my home with family and friends and I melt. This year was an “odd” year when I knew I wouldn’t host a gingerbread house party for the kids. Honestly, I would love to hold a party every year but these parties are expensive. So, this year I came up with the idea to host a cookie exchange for a few neighborhood moms and friends. In order to make it easy on everyone I changed the rules a little bit. Instead of all 15 people bringing 15 dozen cookies I asked everyone to just bake a batch or two of cookies so that they had 2-3 dozen to share and one empty platter. The end result was just enough cookies for everyone to build their own beautiful platter of cookies to gift or nibble on at home. We had about 20 completely different types of cookies to choose from. Classics like my mom’s almost famous peanut butter balls, sugar cookies, ginger snaps biscotti, and krumkake to new favorites like Chex Mix puppy chow, pretzel Rolo bites, homemade marshmallows and plantation crunch.
To gather on a rainy Sunday December afternoon with friends (and my mom) over baked goods and a glass of champagne is just about the most I could ever ask for this Christmas season. Merry Christmas!
